In May 2022, Cruz Melendez’s life was forever changed by a tragic accident. He was struck head-on by a drunk driver, leading to several severe injuries, one leading to a foot infection that eventually required amputation. For 88 grueling days, Cruz fought his way through the challenges of recovery. Throughout this difficult journey, Cruz displayed an unyielding determination to complete his senior year of high school—an accomplishment that showcased his incredible resilience.
During his recovery, Cruz’s perspective on life underwent a profound transformation. Inspired by the healthcare professionals who helped him regain his strength and mobility, he developed a newfound dream of becoming a physical therapist. This dream was a testament to his unwavering belief in the power of healing and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
